Founded in the fall of 1991, Laurel Moon is Brandeis' oldest, national literary publication. Each issue we publish features original work from undergraduate students.
I have heard thistle described as purple and silver
so I crouch in needle beds looking for missing
threads unknown to me this lifetime.
Thorns speak in defense, knowing too well
the quiver of curiosity these shapes have vibrated,
as if to say–in blood-drawing teeth–
how even the pigment of land evokes currency.
Sasha Senal studies writing and literature at UCSB. Their poetic works seek to mediate their upbringing as a queer biracial womxn in the fluid space between a binary of Pacific Northwest bohemian/hick aesthetics.
