I asked the fish if you loved me
The flimsy plastic stuck
Its sheer, red body to my white palm
As my internal voice demanded answers
My tongue could not
His head and tail fluttered
Until the flat fish coiled into a ball
Passionate
I asked the fish if I loved you
The cellophane jerked at my inquiry
And his head peaked in interest
His tail flapped and snapped
As if suddenly seeking water, deep
In Love
